It’s time to talk about online business strategies. In this day and age, if you have a business, chances are you are online promoting your business.
It doesn’t come as a surprise to anyone that most consumers these days do research online about a business and/or product before making any buying decisions.
This means as a business owner, however small your business is, has to adopt effective online business strategies in order to succeed. You could easily spend thousands of dollars and achieve very little results if you don’t know what you are doing.
Here’re 4 keys to help you reach your goals in business:
1- Find out the best online channels to reach your target market
As you may have already known having a website for your business does not guarantee a success. Effective online marketing goes way beyond that. You need to find out online channels frequented by your target market and reach out to them.
Would that be Facebook? Twitter? Online niche forums? Youtube? Or blogs? One thing you need to know is that the best online marketing channel for someone else may not work for you at all.
Your target audience is as unique as you define them. Do your test often and do your test a lot until you find the best fit for your business.
2- Be interesting and different
Many translators write to me and complain about not getting any result even after trying all the online marketing tools as suggested on my website. Well I would suggest that they go back and look at what they’ve posted online.
What do you talk about to your target audience? How do you talk to them? Chances are your audience are not interested in what you have to say.
Often as professionals we like to talk about what really affects us in our business and career and there’s nothing wrong with that. But if you lose track and let your audience be bored with your message, you are making a serious mistake.
Being a professional doesn’t mean you have to be boring!
One of the most important online business strategies that would largely affect your results is always put your potential clients in mind. That’s what keeps your business going not your personal rantings.
Put yourself in a potential client’s shoe for a minute. What would you like to read about? What would attract your attention to learn about a specific business?
Don’t be afraid to provide thought-provoking information to your target market. Controversial sells as long as it follows the ethic rules.
3- Create more than one product or service
Having one product or service is ok, but it’s often not enough to make a decent income. The more relevant products you provide to your clients, the more your business grows.
Leveraging is one of the most effective online business strategies. That’s also how some solo business owners became successful over a relatively short period time.
Unfortunately it is my belief that many language professionals are not taking advantage of practice.
4- Be persistent
If you are in business, any kind of business, I hope you are in it for the long run. Like everything else in life, there are ups and downs, good times and bad times in business.
Some statistics show that up to 90% of small businesses fail within the first 5 years. But I have a different take on this – that’s because these businesses gave up too early.
It often takes a long time for a business to take shape. Any expectation of having an instant success in business will only result in a huge disappointment.
Many things are uncertain in the business world, but one thing is sure – that is you will make plenty of mistakes along the way. Don’t be discouraged by obstacles and humps, they are merely opportunities for you to learn and grow if you are willing to make changes and adjustments.
One of the best online business strategies is refuse to accept failure. The only failure is giving up!
